"Cass" Cassim
On the Road - Alaska and Canada
As one of Viewpoint West's Antarctica photographers, Cass thought
it was time to see some of the sites at the northern end of the
world. The views to be seen in Alaska and Canada were as spectactular
as can be seen anywhere on earth.
The trip started with kayaking around South Sawyer Glacier, to the
south of Juneau. The ice calving from the face of the glacier was
rather exciting when up close. From Juneau, it was up to Denali
National Park, down to Kenai Peninsula, across to Misty Fjords National
Monument, a quick stop at Hazelton, then to Mount Robson, and on
to Jasper and Banff National Parks.
The only slightly unfortunate part of the trip was that out of the
40+ days spent touring around, it rained on 30 of them. Catching
some nice light became a real challenge, as did keeping the camera
gear dry. Still, as Cass says, "the experience of being up
close to some of the most accessible icefields in this part of the
world was worth every drop of rain... although next time I will
definitely be checking the weather forecast first".
The photos shown here represent just some of the beautiful scenes
that were captured during the trip, adding to the great variety
of other scenic images already held by Viewpoints West. We hope
you enjoy looking through them.
